On his Twitter page today, Lukas Verzbicas (Sr., Sandburg, IL) announced he will run the Pre Classic two mile on Saturday, June 4, 2011 in Eugene, Oregon. Verzbicas' tweet read:

Just confirmed to race the 2 mile at Prefontaine Classic! Can't remember last time I was this excited :)

While no other committed athletes have been announced, there will no doubt be a strong American contingent. There will also be no question surrounding Verzbicas' goal, which is to break German Fernandez' high school two mile national record of 8:34.40, set in 2008.
