Distance Gala Veterans Have Strong Weekend

With the Distance Gala heading into it's seventh year, we've had some tremendous runners pass through the event, now running at the collegiate level. From now until the 2011 Distance Gala, we'll provide occasional highlights of some of our Distance Gala veterans and how their doing at the collegiate level. Here are some of the highlights from this weekend: - Peter Callahan (Princeton) won the GaREAT Collegiate Invitational (OH) men's mile in 4:04.39, while Alex Muntefering (Oklahoma) placed seventh in 4:07.52. - Ashley Verplank (North Carolina) won the women's mile event at the GaREAT Collegiate Invitational in a US top five time of 4:40.68. - In the men's 3,000m event, Kevin Schwab (Oklahoma) placed fifth in 7:57.60. - At the Meyo Invitational (IN), Jordan Carlson (Notre Dame) placed fourth in the men's mile in 4:03.39, while Jeff Thode (Iowa) placed fifth in 4:03.66. Both are getting so close to breaking the magical four minute barrier for the first time. - On the women's side at the Meyo Invitational, Stephanie Morgan (Illinois) placed fifth in 4:45.76. |
